How can we find the time for an entire weekend when we are so busy with our family?
It seems like a busy family life is an integral part of our modern culture, but that busyness can often get in the way of building the foundation for a close family: the love between a husband and wife. It's been said that the best thing that a father can do for his children is to love their mother. The Marriage Renewal Workshop is like a special date for a husband and wife — a time to laugh, enjoy one another's company, get to know other couples, and gain insights into your marriage relationship. There is always time for what you consider important.
We've been married a long time. Isn't this for younger couples?
Are we ever too old to laugh, to enjoy being with other wonderful couples, and to celebrate the blessings that our spouses have brought to our lives? As an experienced married couple, you can share what you've learned through your years of marriage with some of the younger couples. Taking time to enrich your marriage doesn't have an age limit. We are always growing and learning. The Marriage Renewal Workshop is, in a sense, a reward for your marriage longevity.
Isn't the Marriage Renewal Workshop for marriages in trouble?
The Marriage Renewal Workshop is for all couples: marriages that are in trouble, marriages that are nearly perfect, and marriages that are somewhere in between. The Marriage Renewal Workshop is an enrichment experience. We celebrate the graces of our marriages and build a sense of belonging and support, but also discuss and tackle the tough issues that many married couples face. There are no counselors on the weekend — only couples who are willing to share their lived experiences to help other couples renew their commitment.
I'm not comfortable talking about our marriage in a group. How much will I have to talk?
Except for introductions, no one is required to share anything about their lives or their marriages. Much of the weekend is spent listening and sharing in small groups at a table, and passing is always an option. Many of the discussion questions are very general and most people feel comfortable answering them.
What if my spouse isn't Catholic?
The Marriage Renewal Workshop has been specifically designed for the entire spectrum of today's Catholics, including the 50% of Catholics with spouses who do not share their faith or culture. While our Catholic faith and teachings form the framework on which the workshop is built, most non-Catholics will feel very comfortable on the Marriage Renewal Workshop. Mixed-culture couples are very welcome as well.
Is childcare provided during the weekend?
We do not provide childcare services.
Are there any activities after the workshop?
St. John Paul the Great encouraged the laity to be involved in small communities to have a deeper lived experience of our faith and support from others in our faith journey. We encourage you to reach out to your parish for involvement in parish ministries, retreats, and other opportunities to be in community.
Can we skip some sessions if we can't attend the entire workshop?
No, since each segment builds upon the previous one, we discourage partial attendance. If you have special circumstances to be considered, please reach out to us.
My partner doesn't want to attend. Can I attend solo?
No. The Marriage Renewal Workshop is designed for couples to experience together.
We attended before. Can we attend again?
No problem. However, we will give priority to those couples who have not attended the workshop before.
Which airport is nearest? Do you provide airport transfers?
The nearest airport is SEA. We do not provide airport transfers.
Is lodging provided during the workshop?
Lodging is not provided. If you need assistance finding accommodations in the area, please reach out to our workshop contact below.
Will the workshop be conducted in Vietnamese or English?
The workshop will be in English.
